Donabate Storm

There is your SkyWatch Friday image.

I had only a couple of mins before the rain started as you can see from the clouds rolling in from the Irish Sea. Lambay Island is just visible on the horizon. The waves were starting to grow in intensity. It was a case of set up the tripod , take the photo and run like hell back to the car. I love this type of weather conditions as the time just before and after have the most interesting sky's. No clear blue sky's for me thank you. I have a big heavy duty plastic bag which I put over the camera while still on the tripod as there is no time to start packing the camera, lens and filters away form the elements.

  1. That is such a dramatic photo - full of texture and movement. And the lowering sky is the best bit.

  2. Striking image. Those certainly are some ominous-looking clouds. I imagine your post-photos, run from the rain activities would be amusing to see.

  4. Amazing photo, all of your pics should be framed and hung on a wall. Outstanding.

  14. Another great photo. The foreground feels like its flowing and draws you into the distance, and then you're stopped by the island, and the deal is sealed by the clouds. A play on the senses. I'm sure that's exactly what you wanted.

I sometimes try to place dominant features in the foreground, with perspective lines leading into the distance, to create a battle in the viewers mind.

  15. Dramatic photo, quite ominous, yet beautiful. Bright blue skies are a joy to sit outdoors and enjoy a pint or three, but lousy for photography. The light is too hash. Clouds are nature's lighting softbox.
